How much does a pergola cost in 2026?

The roof decides most of the price. Here’s the typical range at 10×12, one of the most common patio sizes, for each kind of pergola.

Big-box cedar kits sit below that wood range: Backyard Discovery’s Beaumont starts at about $1,100 for a 10×10. For every brand’s price at every size, see pergola prices.

Compare the same brand at the same size and the motor adds about $1,400 to $1,800. At 10×13, PergoLux’s Pergola 4 Pro costs about $1,400 more than its manual Pergola 4, and Hansø’s Horizon about $1,800 more than its Pro+. There are two very different jobs, so ask which one a quote covers. Assembling a kit on a patio you already have is a day or two of work. Building the site, with footings dug, concrete poured and a ledger fixed to the house, is a contractor job priced in crew-days.

For assembly alone, Yardistry’s professional assembly adds $670 to $1,140 depending on the model, and an independent service lists PergoLux assembly from about $1,000 to $1,300. An independent assembler in Southern California charges $600 for a 10×12 and $1,200 for a 12×16, plus $350 to $450 for anchoring. So $600 to $1,300 covers most kit assembly. A full custom build costs far more. The Home Depot’s installation program lists a custom wood pergola at $6,994 for 10×12 and $7,539 for 12×12, labor and materials included.

This is the line that surprises people. On a sound concrete patio, a kit only needs bolting down, and Mirador and most Erommy kits include the bolts while PergoLux and Yardistry don’t. With no slab, Angi puts a new one at about $600 per 100 square feet, so roughly $800 under a 10×13. In a cold climate, footings below the frost line can add $200 to $500, according to one contractor. A manual pergola needs no power at all. A motorized one needs an outdoor outlet at a post, and if there isn’t one already, Angi puts a new exterior outlet at $150 to $260. That outlet can need an electrical permit even when the pergola itself doesn’t.

The model building code exempts a freestanding structure up to 200 square feet, but many cities draw their own line at 120, a 10×12, so a 10×13 or 12×16 often does need a building permit. So does any pergola attached to the house. Fees are small next to everything else: one New York town charges $50, and Angi gives a range of $50 to $500. Here are three common projects with every line priced, so you can see where your own budget will land.

On a concrete patio you already have, this is close to the whole bill. The anchors come in the box, Mirador says two people can put it up in about four hours, and no slab is needed. At 130 square feet it’s over the permit line in cities that draw it at 120, so check yours. Total: about $3,000.

Add Yardistry’s professional assembly at $910 and its anchoring service at $99 to $149, on a patio you already have. At 144 square feet and freestanding, it’s over the 120-square-foot line many cities use, so check yours. Total: about $3,100.

Add about $1,100 for independent assembly, about $800 for a new slab, $150 to $260 for an outdoor outlet and around $50 to $100 for the electrical permit. PergoLux leaves the anchor bolts out, so buy those too. Total: about $9,100 to $9,300, before any screens or glass walls.

Usually not. One timber-frame builder puts the materials alone for its 10×10 design at about $4,700, while cedar kits at that size start around $1,100; what a pagoda or arbor costs is a separate question. Building your own makes sense for an unusual size or a custom look, not to save money.

At its sale price, yes. On 11 October 2026 Costco listed Mirador’s louvered aluminum pergola online at $1,499.99 for 10×10, $1,799.99 for 10×13 and $2,499.99 for 10×20, each after $300 to $500 off. That makes the 10×13 cheaper than more than half the manual louvered kits sold at that size, and the listing has more than 2,100 member reviews.

Costco doesn’t say which Mirador model it is, and the discount won’t last, so compare it with Mirador’s own 111DA in our best louvered pergolas before you buy.
