How much does a motorized pergola cost?

At a typical 10×13, a motorized louvered pergola kit costs about $7,800 and a manual one about $2,300, before installation. Assembly, an anchor-ready patio and an outdoor outlet add roughly $600 to $2,500 more. Dealer-installed systems such as StruXure cost far more, roughly $150 to $200 a square foot installed.

Motorized kits cost about 3.4 times as much as manual ones, yet within the same brand the motor itself adds only a fifth to a third. The gap is mostly about who sells motorized kits.

What a louvered pergola costs at your size

Here’s the typical price of a manual and a motorized louvered kit at four common sizes. Half the kits at each size cost less and half cost more, so treat these as the middle of the market, not a quote.

Typical louvered pergola kit prices, manual against motorized
Size (ft)ManualMotorized
10×10$1,599$7,990
10×13$2,299$7,844
10×20$2,949$10,699
12×16$2,847$15,999

Median list price at each size in our Pergola Price Index, before delivery, assembly and installation. Few motorized kits are sold at 12×16, so that figure leans on a handful of brands.

Per square foot, a manual louvered kit typically runs about $17 and a motorized one about $58. Above both sit dealer-installed systems, which are quoted rather than sold as kits: our StruXure cost guide shows how an installed price of about $150 to $200 a square foot breaks down.

What the motor really adds

Compare the same brand and the motor looks much smaller. Across five brands that sell both, the motorized version costs 12% to 27% more per square foot than the manual one. That’s nothing like the 3.4-times gap in the table above.

So why do motorized kits cost so much more overall? Because the cheapest manual kits come from budget brands that don’t sell a motor at all, while most motorized kits come from premium brands that charge more for everything. You’re mostly paying for the brand, not the motor.

That gives you a real choice. A premium manual kit can cost about what a budget motorized one does, and a motor on a kit you already like costs a fifth to a third more, not three times more. Here are three same-brand pairs at 10×13, where the motor adds about $900 to $1,800:

Is a motor worth it?

Yes, if you’ll move the roof most days: opening it for sun in the morning and closing it for rain or heat later, or if a crank is awkward for you to reach and turn. A motor also makes a rain sensor possible, so the roof can close itself while you’re out.

Probably not, if you’ll set the louvers for the season and leave them. Then the motor, its power supply and its shorter warranty buy you very little.

Check the motor’s warranty before you pay, because it’s usually shorter than the frame’s. PergoLux, Hansø and BON each give the electrical parts a shorter term, while The Luxury Pergola puts its motor on the same footing as the frame, apart from Somfy parts. Our motorized pergola comparison sets out the controls, sensors and warranty kit by kit.

What you’ll pay on top of the kit

The kit is most of the bill, not all of it. Paying someone to assemble it adds about $600 to $1,300. With no patio to bolt it to, a new slab under a 10×13 is about $800. A motorized roof also needs an outdoor outlet at a post, about $150 to $260 if you don’t have one, and that wiring can need its own electrical permit. Our pergola cost guide sources each line.

Here’s how a typical 10×13 adds up:

Costco and Home Depot prices

Costco sells a manual Mirador louvered pergola, listed at $2,199.99 for 10×13 on 13 October 2026. On 11 October it was $1,799.99 on sale, so if you can wait, wait for the next discount. It’s manual, assembly isn’t included, and Costco doesn’t say which Mirador model it is, so compare it with Mirador’s own range before you buy.

Home Depot and Wayfair mostly carry budget manual kits. Most motorized kits are sold direct by the brands that make them.
