Wood gazebos
Every wood gazebo kit is built the same way: cedar posts and beams under a galvanized steel roof. For the best value, buy Sunjoy’s Kingston cedar, about $1,080 at 10×10 with curtains and netting included. Spend about $700 more for Backyard Discovery’s Barrington or Norwood if you want outlets built into a post and a 100 mph wind rating once anchored. Either way, plan to restain the wood every couple of years.
The hardest part of building one isn’t the posts. It’s lifting the roof.

Size for size, Backyard Discovery costs about $700 more than Sunjoy at 10×10. What that buys is built-in power, three outlets and USB ports in a post, and a stated wind rating on every model. Some Sunjoy kits, like the Kingston, include curtains and netting, which Backyard Discovery sells separately for about $450 to $580, so compare like with like.
Wood or metal posts?
Under the same steel roof, wood costs about what aluminum does: Sunjoy sells its Kingston on both, at nearly the same price. So choose by look and upkeep. Cedar looks warmer and fits a garden, but it needs a fresh coat of stain or sealer every year or two to stop it fading to grey. Aluminum just needs a hose.

Cedar gazebo kits: what you get
Almost every wood gazebo kit here is cedar. What changes between brands is the roof and the cover on the wood. Sunjoy and Backyard Discovery put cedar under a galvanized steel roof; Yardistry’s Meridian puts it under an aluminum roof, which won’t rust where it gets scratched.
The cedar itself is the part brands cover longest. Yardistry warrants its lumber for five years against rot and decay, against one year for the rest of the kit, and it requires regular maintenance to keep that cover. So the restaining is not optional: it is what keeps the wood, and the warranty, in good shape.
Four things to check before you order
Help for the roof. Owners say the roof sections are the heavy, awkward part, and a 14×12 can take a full day. Line up three or four people for that stage.
A level, dry base. Keep wood posts off wet ground: a patio or deck, or the post covers and anchor plates that come with most kits.
Anchoring. The wind ratings only count once the gazebo is bolted down. Check whether your kit includes bolts for concrete or only stakes for a lawn.
What’s in the box. Curtains, netting and power vary by model. Adding them later can push a cheap kit past a dearer one.
