For most people, the best 10×10 gazebo is a steel-roof hardtop like Sunjoy’s Kingston, about $1,100 with curtains and netting included. Spend about $700 more for Backyard Discovery’s cedar Norwood or Barrington if you want outlets built in and a 100 mph wind rating once anchored. Either way, a 10×10 seats four comfortably, but not a table and a sofa together.
A 10×10 gazebo isn’t 10 feet across inside, and the cedar ones lose the most.

The Sunjoy hardtops all sit within about $120 of each other, so choose by post material and whether you want daylight through a clear vent top. The Kingston includes curtains and netting. Backyard Discovery costs more for built-in power and a heavier wind rating; its netting is sold separately.
How much space you really get
A 10×10 covers about 100 square feet: a round table and four chairs, or a small sofa with two armchairs, but not both. For a six-seat table or a table plus seating, look at a 10×12 or 12×12. A hot tub needs a 12×12 or larger.
And 10×10 is the roof, not the room. The posts stand inside the roof line, so the clear space is smaller, and thicker cedar posts take the most.

Smaller than 10×10: is an 8×8 enough?
An 8×8 fits a bistro table and two chairs, and it saves little money: a typical 8×8 hardtop is about $870 and a typical 10×10 about $960. If your space really stops at 8 feet, see 8×8 gazebos or 8×10 gazebos, and for every kit under 100 square feet, small gazebos.
Aluminum or cedar posts?
Under the same steel roof they cost about the same. Aluminum needs only a hose and leaves you more room between the posts. Cedar looks warmer but needs restaining every year or two and a dry footing. If you’re unsure, see metal gazebos and wood gazebos.
Four things to check before you order
The permit. Many towns don’t require one for a small freestanding structure, but some draw the line at 100 square feet, and a 10×10 roof sits right on it. Ask your building department.
Something to bolt to. The wind ratings only count once it’s bolted to a slab or a solid deck. Stakes are for pop-up tents.
Curtains and netting. They’re in the box with the Sunjoy hardtops; the Chatam soft top has netting only, and Backyard Discovery sells netting separately.
10×10 or 10×12. Two more feet buys room for a bigger table, and often costs little more. Compare 10×12 gazebos.
