PergoLux vs Hansø: which louvered pergola should you buy?

PergoLux sells its current US line, Series 4, direct: the manual Pergola 4, the motorized Pergola 4 Pro and the wider-louver Pergola 4 Pro Max, one frame at three feature levels, in the same seven sizes and four colors. Hansø Home sells three aluminum louvered kits direct: the manual Pro+, the motorized Horizon and the heavier motorized Apex, in two colors, freestanding or wall-mounted at the same price. Every size is priced on its product pages. Full line on the Hansø Home brand page.

Both brands price every size, so the comparison can be exact. First the cheapest size of each family, then all six held at 10×13 ft and again at 13×19 ft, the largest footprint both brands share. PergoLux lists every product against a “compare at” price that implies a permanent discount; Hansø’s prices carry no compare-at figure. We show the price charged on the verified date and compute no discount.

PergoLux sells seven footprints, 10×10, 10×13, 10×16, 10×19, 13×13, 13×16 and 13×19, across all three Series 4 families, in anthracite, anthracite with white louvers, black and white, freestanding or wall-mounted at the same price. Above 13×19 its route is the Custom Design S4, which publishes no sizes or prices.

Hansø’s ladder depends on the family: the Pro+ sells 10×10, 10×13, 13×13 and 13×19; the Horizon adds 10×19; the Apex adds 10×26, 13×23 and 13×26. Dark gray or white, freestanding or wall-mounted at the same price. Neither brand sells 12×12 or 12×16, so neither appears on our 12×12 or 12×16 pages. The practical line: between 100 and 247 sq ft either brand can serve you, PergoLux with two more intermediate sizes; from 260 to 338 sq ft in one rectangle, only Hansø publishes a fixed-size kit and a price.

Both manual kits use a hand crank. On the motorized side, PergoLux’s Pergola 4 Pro record lists beam-integrated LED lighting, a remote, and app and smart-home control over Bluetooth and Matter with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings named; the Pro Max moves the LED into the louvers and widens them. Hansø’s Horizon and Apex pages publish phone, Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit control and an optional rain sensor. On the published record, smart-home reach is a draw; the rain sensor is Hansø’s, and the included lighting is PergoLux’s. Neither brand publishes its motor manufacturer.

On construction, PergoLux publishes 6063-T5 aluminum, its post and beam sections and its pass-through height on the Pergola 4 Pro page. Hansø states 6063-T5 for the Pro+ and a “T6” alloy for the Horizon and Apex that it describes as up to 43% stronger than T5; the percentage has no published basis, and Hansø publishes no post or beam dimensions. Both describe a gutter that drains through the posts.

There is no equivalent panel for Hansø because Hansø publishes no parts list for any of its three kits. That is a gap in the record, not a statement that the kits arrive incomplete: ask Hansø for the packing list in writing before you order. Both brands sell a wall-mounted version of every family at the same price as freestanding. The difference is in the warranty documents. PergoLux’s warranty is silent on wall-mounting. Hansø’s warranty states that its pergolas are a freestanding construction and should not be attached to buildings, and separately excludes attachment to buildings and water infiltration between a wall and the pergola. A buyer choosing Hansø’s wall-mounted option is buying a configuration its own warranty wording appears to disclaim. We have not seen a Hansø statement resolving this either way; get one in writing before ordering wall-mounted.

Both brands market weather performance and neither figure has been independently evaluated as far as we can find. We have tested neither and rank on neither. Each claim carries the qualifier the brand attaches to it.

PergoLux publishes an assembly estimate of 3–7 hours with two people, with color-coded hardware and pre-assembled roof panels, and sells professional assembly as an add-on through a partner. Hansø publishes “two people, 2 to 4 hours” for the Pro+ and Horizon and “4 to 6 hours” for the Apex. Both are the manufacturer’s estimates for its own product. Both motorized lines need a standard 120 V outdoor outlet that is not in the box.

PergoLux’s published recourse after delivery is its 100-day trial, and its conditions matter: the pergola must be fully installed before it can be returned, return shipping is the customer’s, and the period starts ten days after dispatch.

Hansø accepts returns within 100 days of delivery, but the product must be unused and unassembled in its original packaging, the buyer pays return freight, and Hansø deducts a 15% restocking fee plus the original delivery cost. Orders can be cancelled free of charge only within seven days of purchase; after that the 15% applies even if nothing has shipped. Damage must be reported within 48 hours of delivery and missing parts within seven days. A 100-day window that requires the kit unassembled is a window to change your mind about a box, not to try a pergola.

PergoLux requires registration within six months of delivery. Hansø requires it within 30 days of delivery, by email with proof of purchase; on the face of its document, a buyer who misses that window has no warranty. It is the shortest registration window of any brand we have verified.

Both brands headline a ten-year warranty and both documents are narrower than the headline. On a motorized kit the component most likely to need a claim is the motor: two years at PergoLux, one at Hansø. On a manual kit it is the louver mechanism: two years at PergoLux, five at Hansø. Both documents are quoted below, then set side by side.
