Purple Leaf vs Mirador: which louvered pergola should you buy?

Both brands make a hand-cranked aluminum louvered pergola that owners rate well. Choose Mirador if you want the longer warranty, the anchors in the box and the option to buy at Costco. Choose Purple Leaf if your patio needs a size Mirador doesn’t make, or you want a return policy with no restocking fee.

The model you pick matters, but where you buy it can matter almost as much.

What owners say

Owners of both rate them well. Purple Leaf averages 4.6 stars from about 850 reviews on Trustpilot, and Mirador 4.2 stars from about 250 there, plus more than 2,100 member reviews on its Costco listing. The praise is similar for both: a sturdy frame, careful packaging and staff who answer quickly when a part needs replacing.

The most common gripe for both is assembly, with instructions some owners found hard to follow and louvers that take patience to fit. Plan a full day with at least two people, and check every box against the parts list as soon as it arrives.

The differences that decide it

Sizes

Purple Leaf sells the Caesar in many more sizes, from 8×10 up to 13×30, including wall-mounted versions and several finishes. Mirador sells its 111 kits in a few set sizes, from 10×10 to 13×20. If your patio falls between Mirador’s steps, the Caesar is likely to fit.

Warranty

Mirador covers its 111 kits for four years, and a fifth if you register within two months, in a published warranty document. Purple Leaf lists a one-year warranty on the Caesar. If you want longer cover, that’s Mirador’s strongest point.

What’s in the box, and the louvers

Mirador includes anchor bolts for a concrete patio, a toolbox and a manual with videos. Purple Leaf includes the hardware, a crank handle and a hidden gutter; check its listing for anchors. Mirador’s 111DA has double-layer aluminum louvers and the 111S steel ones, while the Caesar has aluminum louvers that open to about 85 degrees.

Returns

Purple Leaf takes back an unopened, unused kit within 30 days with no restocking fee. Mirador also allows 30 days, but deducts a 15% restocking fee and the return label. If you might change your mind, that favors Purple Leaf.

Help putting it up

Mirador lists a phone line and email and refers buyers to certified installers. Purple Leaf links a third-party assembly service from some listings. Both kits are made to be built by the buyer: Mirador says two people can put one up in about four hours, and Purple Leaf recommends four to six people for the Caesar.

Should you buy Mirador at Costco?

It’s worth checking. On 11 October 2026 Costco listed Mirador’s louvered aluminum pergola online at $1,499.99 for 10×10 and $1,799.99 for 10×13, each on sale. Costco doesn’t name the model, so compare the details with Mirador’s own kits before you buy.

Where you buy also decides who handles a problem. Mirador says returns, missing parts and warranty claims on a Costco purchase go through Costco. Purple Leaf isn’t sold at Costco; you buy it from its own website.

How do they handle wind and winter?

Purple Leaf rates the Caesar for winds up to 70 mph, and Mirador rates the 111DA for up to 102 mph. Both figures are the brands’ own. Whichever you buy, bolt it down properly and open the louvers when strong wind is forecast; Mirador’s warranty asks for exactly that.

In snowy areas, brush heavy snow off the roof and ask the brand what load it’s rated for at your size. Permits and HOA rules depend on where you live; our pergola cost guide explains when one is likely.
